Futurepast Zine September 2014 Part 2:

6th September - It's been a looooong time!

Lot's has been going on with Futurepast Zine in the past few months hence the lack of blog posts. I've been writing stuff on scraps of paper so that I can blog it, but then I've ended up losing them - anyway, enough excuses!

Hear Me 'Hear Me' is something I've wanted to do for a while. I'm not sure if you've ever been in a library or a cafe and seen a book lying around - you pick it up and basically it's free for you to take. Once you've read it, you pass it on to someone else. I liked the idea of that and wanted to apply it to music, so I approached a few Record Labels that I'm a fan of to see if they wanted to take part - luckily a few of them did :)

I've left a few around in some random places, and also sent a couple out. The only response I've had so far is here, so if there is anyone out there that has these cd's - remember to pass them on!

Zine Hacking I'm not sure if this is something that's done before or not, but …

The Light of Day

It's finally here! For those that don't know about this Futurepast Zine project, check out this video:

It's available to buy at Norman Records, Provide and on Bandcamp:

The Light of Day by Futurepast Zine This project started around autumn 2013. But the seed of this project was planted a few years ago. I'm a fan of an artist called 'Abdul Haqq' - he had created some stunning visuals for some of my favourite record labels (for instance: 'Underground Resistance'). He released a compilation called 'The Technanomicron' around 2008. It was a great experience to listen to the music and read the booklet that came with it - the CD was housed in a DVD case which looked really cool, and quite different from the standard CD cases. The album reminded me of buying records which had great artwork with them. I knew that one day I wanted to put something together like that.

In 2012 I went to a club night in Birmingham (UK) called 'Movement' at a place c…

May 2014 - Music, Interviews & News

Hello It's been nearly 7 months and there haven't been any new issues of Futurepast Zine! There's a reason for that though (not an excuse!). Some of you may know of a project that's been in the works called 'The Light of Day'. You can find more about it towards the bottom of this post. Once that project has been completed, Futurepast Zine issue 7 will be worked on - it's going to be absolutely wicked so keep an eye out for it.
I've been writing bits and pieces about music on scraps of paper and I've got enough now for someone to digest, so here goes. Please listen and read :-) ……..

Marc Mac - Tell Me Now (feat Marvin)It's Right To Be Civil by Marc Mac

This track features on Marc's album 'It's Right to be Civil'. The album itself is great from start to finish, it's almost like a documentary. My favourite track off the album is 'Tell Me Now'. It begins with the vocal: "I may be black but I am somebody!". Very…

Music Research - January 2014

HELLOSince the end of 2013 I've really wanted to start working on 'Futurepast Zine' issue 7. However, there is a separate 'Futurepast Zine' project a few of us are working on and I wanted to keep the focus on that. At the same time, there's a few things I've been listening to that really made me want to 'put pen to paper', so I thought why not do a blog post instead.......

MIXESThere's three mixes that have been keeping me going that past couple of months. Anyone that is a friend of the zine on facebook will have seen me repost some of these mixes.

First up is a mix by Gumsoul, it's on a beats/hip hop tip and it's unreal, absolutely wicked. I love the vibe of it, I've been listening to it loads in the car and at home. Recently I went to a night called 'Secret Walls' where Gumsoul provided the soundtrack for some Graffiti artists to do their thing on the walls, it was real cool. I haven't got a clue about the track …
